Realize the perfect day in… Glenwood Springs

In May, the Realize Colorado Team went on a company retreat to beautiful Glenwood Springs. Located at the confluence of the Roaring Fork River and the Colorado River, Glenwood is a historic vacation destination with diverse natural amenities.

Established in 1883, Glenwood Springs was originally a Wild West camp of tents, saloons and brothels. After gaining a stop on the railroad, the town quickly became a center of commerce in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley. (Photo courtesy of Frontier Historical Society).

Today, Glenwood Springs is a modern cultural, dining and recreational destination. It has been named the 5th Best Place to Live in America by Outside Magazine and the Most Fun Town in America by Rand McNally and USA Today.

Our perfect day in Glenwood Springs begins at Glenwood Canyon Resort. Just minutes from downtown, the resort offers several accommodation options, meeting space, an outdoor bar and grill, zipline, ropes course and a rock climbing wall. After a quick walk down to the Colorado River, you are ready to embark on an exciting morning of whitewater rafting. We had a blast navigating the river in duckies, which are easy to maneuver and fun for all experience levels.

Next, head into town and catch the Iron Mountain Tramway up to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. As America’s only mountain-top theme park, the property features cave tours, thrill rides, kids’ activities and special events. Once off the tram, stop in for lunch at The Lookout Grill and take in sweeping views from their outdoor patio. Don’t miss the awe-inspiring caverns, as well as our favorite rides: the Alpine Slide and Giant Canyon Swing.

End the perfect day in Glenwood Springs at Iron Mountain Hot Springs. Less crowded than Glenwood’s famous Hot Springs Pool, Iron Mountain is located right on the Colorado River. It features 16 natural mineral pools with temperatures ranging from 98 to 108°F. There is also a fresh water family pool, cafe and a gift shop featuring Colorado-made items.
